H1B applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent to qualify. As a condition of receiving an H-1B visa, the prospective employee must have a bachelor's degree from a U.S. college or university. A college or university degree equivalent to four years of study in the United States is needed. An additional year of education can be included if the foreign degree is equivalent to a three-year bachelor's degree.
Along with academic training, the candidate should be fully qualified to legally perform the duties associated with the position. Applicants for H1B visas must already be in possession of a professional license or credentials to work in occupations that require either (e.g., doctors, dentists, attorneys, accountants, architects, and registered nurses), before filing the petition.
